Candidates Assigned

This week, the synod’s Assignment Committee met to assign graduates to congregations, schools, and mission settings. At the Call Day service on Thursday, May 24, 2016, Professor Gurgel began his sermon by saying, “It is hard to wait. For some, the sermon’s already too long.”

After his encouragement from God’s Word, the candidates, their families, parents, grandparents, and friends heard where they were headed to serve. In all, 30 men were assigned. Of those, 26 were seniors receiving their first call and four were from the class of 2016. In addition, four were reassigned to one-year calls.

Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary President Paul Wendland commented, “What a tremendous privilege it is to greet the men who present themselves for ministry, and to be encouraged by their faith and hope and life.”

The service was streamed live and 1208 computers logged on from places such as Canada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, California, and Montana. An entire classroom watched from Calvary, Dallas, Tex.

At the same service, 26 middlers were assigned to congregations throughout North America to serve for their vicar year. Both assignment lists are available on our website.
