Jesus, Master Storyteller

Jesus was the master teacher. In his teaching, Jesus regularly made use of parables. In fact, Matthew 13:34b says that “he did not say anything to them without using a parable.” Does it make sense that we might want to emulate the master teacher in our own teaching? Of course it does. Jesus, Master Storyteller will give us the opportunity to explore storytelling, seeing it as a vehicle for teaching (and for preaching, too, although preaching will not be the focus) We will also consider several of the parables, growing in our ability to understand and apply them. In addition to the in-class work, each student will be responsible to complete a project. That project will be chosen by the student in consultation with the instructor.
