Readings in the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers

Instructor: James Korthals

Description:
This course will continue the history and theology of the patristic period, starting with the controversy that led to the calling of the Council of Nicea (AD 325). The objective of the course is to provide an overview of the main writers of the Nicene and Post-Nicene era via a selection of significant literary excerpts. Included in this list will be Athanasius, Eusebius, Gregory of Nyssa, Basil, Jerome, Cyril of Jerusalem, and Gregory Nazianzen - and others as time permits. The instructor will introduce the author and his historical setting. Students will then read a selection from that writer for class discussion.
