The History of Preaching and Its Application to Proclaiming the Gospel in the 21st Century

Instructor: Private: Richard Gurgel

Description:
Long before any of us stepped into a pulpit, the Christian church struggled repeatedly with many of our current preaching challenges (speaking to those more visually oriented, dealing with biblically illiterate hearers, balancing an emphasis on style/rhetoric with an emphasis on content). This course will be a guided tour through the centuries as we observe how preachers wrestled with proclaiming the unchanging gospel in an ever-changing world. At each key stop along that tour, we will pause to ask how God’s grace can enable us to avoid the homiletical mistakes of the past and yet learn from the wisdom of those who heralded the gospel before us.
