Theological Insights for 21st Century Lutheran Pastors
Instructor: To Be Determined
Through readings and discussion, this course provides the busy pastor with an overview of current trends in all four branches of theology. The longer a pastor has been out of seminary, the more useful this course may become in alerting him to these trends that have developed since his student years. Some of those trends in theological study could prove a blessing for his ministry (for example: insights on preaching the different genres of Scripture). Others provide challenges to maintaining a clear Lutheran confession (for example: the New Perspective on Paul). For the pastor who is considering the pursuit of the Master of Sacred Theology (STM) degree, this course has the additional benefit of allowing him to sample areas of study that might become more focused study according to his unique gifts and the unique needs of his place of service. Because this course will be taught by multiple professors, each taking turns leading the discussion in an area of expertise, it is best suited for on-campus delivery only.
