Shepherd's Study

Our Lord Jesus once said, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” (Matthew 13:52 – NIV84)

Jesus has given pastors the responsibility of doing just that for his faithful people—bringing out treasures old and new from his Word as we preach, teach, equip, counsel, admonish, and encourage his people. Unfortunately, we pastors can forget to take time to discover and enjoy those treasures for ourselves, as we get caught up in the busyness of pastoral ministry.

That’s why this blog is made for busy pastors like you. The Shepherd’s Study is dedicated to expanding ideas and resources for pastors of our fellowship by providing book reviews and summaries in each of the four theological disciplines (Biblical Theology, Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, and Practical Theology). It is our goal that these reviews will serve as simple summaries of the resources. If you have a few minutes, these reviews will be a blessing and time well spent. We also hope to give brothers in ministry ideas for personal spiritual and professional growth. If you want to dig deeper, here’s a place to start. In a way, it will become much like the study of a busy pastor who returns again and again to the storeroom for continued growth as a shepherd.

Our plan under God is to offer a new resource review written by Lutheran pastors for Lutheran pastors every week. They will be available in written and digital audio formats. We pray this blog will help brothers in ministry continue to grow in grace and enable them to bring a full range of the treasures of God’s Word to his people. We labor and strive with Christ’s promises and his power.
