From February 2-4, presenters from around North America and the world spoke to those who attended Mission & Ministry, an annual three-day event that highlights the worldwide work of WELS. Under the theme “Take Up the Sword,” 34 presenters from wide-ranging ministries spoke about their work. In addition, 30 WELS organizations set up displays to share their work in God’s kingdom. Each day features a worship service, keynote address, an update from WELS administrations, and small group breakout sessions. Mission & Ministry is organized entirely by seminary seniors.
Day 1: Home Missions
On Wednesday, Mission & Ministry focused on Home Missions. Jon Schroeder, pastor at Faith, Sharpsburg, Georgia, spoke on developing a harvest strategy for your school. “We have the fourth largest private education system in the nation and 2,800 trained professionals,” he said. He then shared how their congregation is reaching out through the church’s children’s programs.
Pastor Keith Free, administrator for home missions, also gave an update on the broad scope of mission work taking place in North America.
The breakout sessions discussed urban outreach, Kingdom Workers, canvassing, using your time wisely, teens in outreach, campus ministry, and cross-cultural ministry.
