Professor emeritus Richard Balge called home

Professor emeritus Richard Balge, father of seminary governing board member Jon Balge and grandfather of seminarian Phil Balge, was called to his eternal rest on Monday, October 18 at the age of 89. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” (Psalm 116:15). 

He served as a professor at the seminary from 1971 to 2002, teaching church history and homiletics. He also served as dean of students from 1983 to 1995. During his ministry, Professor emeritus Balge served the church at large as guest preacher, essayist, lecturer, author, editor, temporary part-time hospital chaplain, and vacancy pastor. He also served on various boards, commissions, and ad hoc committees.  

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, from 5 to 7pm and Thursday, October 21, from 10 to 11am. A service thanking God for his grace to and through Professor emeritus Balge is scheduled for Thursday, October 21, at 11am at Christ Alone Lutheran Church in Thiensville.
