As of July 1, 2025, Grow in Grace welcomes Professor Ken Cherney to the team as a faculty liaison!
A 1988 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Kenneth A. Cherney, Jr., was assigned as a missionary to Brazil, where he served until 1994. From 1994 to 1998 he was church planter and pastor at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Mandeville, LA. In 1998, he was called as professor of Hebrew and Greek at Martin Luther College (MLC) in New Ulm, MN. While at MLC, he earned an MA in Hebrew from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
In 2004, Cherney was called to the Caribbean Christian Training Institute in St. John’s, Antigua, where he served until he was called to WLS in 2006. At the Seminary, he teaches courses in Old Testament and Systematic Theology. He was awarded a PhD in Biblical Languages from Stellenbosch University in South Africa in 2014.
Dr. Cherney was married to Kristine (nee Nitz) in the WLS chapel in 1983. They have four children: Kenneth III (Erin) of Atlanta, GA; Rev. Ethan (Laura) of Menasha, WI; Rev. Isaac (Andrea) of New Hope, MN; and Rev. Michael (Ana) of El Paso, TX. The Cherneys are blessed with ten grandchildren.
Dr. Cherney is excited to be part of the Grow in Grace team and hopes to contribute to its important ministry to WELS pastors.
