Scripture Lesson:Mark 1:4-11

Preacher: J. Schroeder

Description: Reading: Mark 1:4-11 The Father speaks, the Spirit appears, and the Son walks out of the water. This occasion of the start of Jesus’ ministry is one of the only times we see all three members of the Trinity appear. Such is the magnitude of this event! The light, that had been kept hidden in Nazareth for 30 years was now being revealed once again. The Father’s voice of affirmation of his Son serves as the bookends of this blessed season in the church year. As Jesus steps into his earthly ministry, the same truth that started our devotions this week still holds true: the light is revealed to all nations and people. As Christ begins his ministry, he takes that light into the darkness and offers it freely for all to see and hear. Speaker: J. Schroeder Hymns: CW21 #378:1-2 “To Jordan Came the Christ Our Lord” CW21 #378:3-4 “To Jordan Came the Christ Our Lord” Prayer/Day: Father in heaven, at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Keep us who are baptized into Christ faithful in our calling as your children and make us heirs with him of everlasting life; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
