Description: Reading Gospel Mark 1:1-8 According to Mark, the beginning of the story of Jesus begins with John the Baptizer. He is the one who would prepare the way for the Lord, as foretold so long ago. John prepared his way by preaching repentance. The focus was not on the appearance of the messenger or even on the sins that need to be confessed, but the message of the forgiveness of those sins. John pointed to Jesus’ power. His powerful message is one of forgiveness that washes away sin, so that we will be ready for him. Speaker: Prof. Brenner Prayer/Day: Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the way for your only Son. By his coming give us strength in our conflicts and shed light on our path through the darkness of this world; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
