Description: Monday, September 20 Reading Mark 9:30–37 Jesus spoke plainly to the Twelve about his coming death. But the disciples didn’t understand. They could not reconcile in their heads the notion of their Lord suffering to the point of death. So what was their reaction to Christ’ powerful proclamation of his humiliation upon the cross? They argue about their pecking order. Christ proclaims full–strength truth: There is no room in the life of the Christian for such pride and arrogance. We are called to imitate and reflect the self-sacrificing love of Christ, not seeking to be served, but to serve; just as Christ sought not his own self-preservation, but the salvation of us all.
