Scripture Lesson:Lamentations 3:22–33

Preacher: J. Borgwardt

Description: In the middle of his book of Lament, Jeremiah expresses firm hope in the love and faithfulness of God. It is marvelous how brightly these verses shine in an otherwise dreary book. Jeremiah had suffered much because of the sins of the people. But he shows how even suffering can serve the purpose of realigning our vision on what really matters: Christ. "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him" (v. 24). The hymnwriter penned "All depends on our possessing..." Possessing what? Not the newest amenities, a comfortable life, and a healthy wallet. But "All depends on our possessing God's abundant grace and blessing, though all earthly wealth depart." In Christ, God has proved his unfailing love in providing exactly what we need.  Hymns  641:1,2,5–7 “Lord Jesus Christ, with Us Abide”   602 “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
