Scripture Lesson:Matthew 21:23-32

Preacher: Prof. R. Wendland

Description: Monday, September 28th Reading Matthew 21:23-32 Two sons take opposite approaches: The first flatly refuses to obey his father’s command; the second answers with breathless eagerness. In the end, however, the first son does his father’s will, while the second did not. With these two sons, Jesus teaches us that God desires true repentance that leads to obedience. He does not desire us simply to say the words he wants to hear and then “do our own thing.” That is the misguided way of lukewarm faith. Instead, he wants even the worst sinner to repent because true repentance naturally leads to obedience. Speaker Prof. R. Wendland Hymns CW 344:1-4 – “At the Name of Jesus” CW 344:5-6 – “At the Name of Jesus” Prayer/Day Mercifully grant, O God, that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts, for without your help we are unable to please you; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
