About Those Satellites

In odd-numbered years like 2023, WLS Summer Quarter goes on the road to the districts of WELS. These satellite events are unique in that they provide an opportunity for pastors take courses for credit or to attend the face-to-face classes as auditors. In a manner of speaking, formal and informal continuing education come together at satellite events.

The biggest difference is that those who take the course for credit will have active learning time before and/or after the two- or three-day event. They will have reading and writing assignments to complete. These assignments are often designed with an eye towards immediate ministry application.

Because of the larger attendance at satellites, tuition costs are reduced at satellite Summer Quarter events. The cost for auditing students is $100/person, and the cost for for-credit students is $200/credit. (Note: By way of price comparison, the cost for STM courses during on-campus Summer Quarter, online, and Winterim is $300/credit, when the calling body is paying. The STM program calls for a total of 24 credits.)

The registration for the MN district event has opened already. This year we are using a self-registration and payment system for the first time. Please be patient with us as we (i.e., our programmers) work out those new system bugs.
