Equipping Evangelists
Instructor: E. Allen Sorum
Description:
The great sleeping giant in congregations is the witnessing power of the members who regularly attend the Sunday morning worship service. Christian pre-school programs and Lutheran elementary schools have tremendous potential in terms of the congregation’s evangelistic program. Research continues to prove, however, that an unchurched person’s best chance to come into contact with the faith-generating gospel is through a one-on-one relationship with a witnessing Christian. Over time, this Christian witness can bring their prospect into the warm fellowship of a congregational community to support the prospect’s journey to faith. The role of the individual Christian witnessing to family and friends “out there” has never been more important. This course will feature a workshop format to explore a natural, non-confrontational “human” witnessing process. We will discuss topics ranging from the pastor and evangelism, teaching and promoting witnessing from the pulpit, the congregation’s support of their members who are witnessing, expanding BIC teaching opportunities, using technology to assist witnessing, and a follow up process, a follow up “machine” to guide prospects through the journey to membership. This is a one credit course but can be a two credit course if participants want to follow this course up with an approved project.
