Teach Them to Your Children: Helping Parents Fulfill Their Spiritual Responsibility to Children
Instructor: Donn Dobberstein
Description:
Today’s families are under intense pressure. Divorce, single-parent realities, overcommitment, digital distraction, and misplaced priorities are reshaping home life. Even faithful, stable families often feel stretched thin—or quietly overwhelmed. Many parents are unsure, and some are deeply anxious, about how to lead spiritually in their own homes. Congregations sense the strain and want to help. But the primary place of spiritual formation is not a church program—it is the home. This course will:
• Examine the home-culture dynamics that most influence a family’s faith and worship life—and identify where those dynamics may be working against spiritual growth.
• Clarify philosophy-of-ministry questions: What is the parent’s role? The church’s role? The school’s role? Where have lines blurred—and how can they be restored with confidence and clarity?
• Guide called workers in developing a practical, context-specific Family Ministry Plan that equips parents to take joyful, confident leadership in their children’s faith formation.
